1995 JOINT RESOLUTIONS

RESOLVED, That the task force report its findings and recommendations to the
Governor and, in accordance with § 2-1312 of the State Government Article, to the
General Assembly by December 15, 1995; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded by the Department of
Legislative Reference to the Honorable Parris N. Glendening, Governor of Maryland; the
Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., President of the Senate of Maryland; the
Honorable Casper R. Taylor, Jr., Speaker of the House of Delegates; and the Honorable
J. Joseph Curran, Jr., Attorney General.

A House Joint Resolution concerning

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

FOR the purpose of calling on the Governor to designate December 7 of each year as
Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day; and generally relating to the day.

WHEREAS, The federal government has designated December 7 of each year as
Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day; and

WHEREAS, On December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy and Air Force
attacked units of the armed forces of the United States stationed at Pearl Harbor,
Hawaii; and

WHEREAS, More than 2,000 citizens of the United States were killed and more
than 1,000 citizens of the United States were wounded in the attack on Pearl Harbor; and

WHEREAS, the attack on Pearl Harbor marked the entry of the United States into
World War II; and

WHEREAS, the veterans of World War II and all other people of the United States
commemorate December 7th in remembrance of the attack on Pearl Harbor; and

WHEREAS, commemoration of the attack on Pearl Harbor will instill in all people
of the United States a greater understanding and appreciation of the selfless sacrifice of
the individuals who served in the armed forces of the United States during World War II,
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Governor of Maryland is urged to designate December 7 of each year as "Pearl Harbor
Remembrance Day"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Governor is authorized and requested:
