AN ACT concerning
Social Services - Aid to Families with Dependent Children - Deductions from Aid to Pay
Public Housing Authority
FOR the purpose of requiring the Social Services Administration or the local department
of social services Income Maintenance Administration to deduct the rent of a
certain recipient of Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) who is a
tenant of public housing from the recipient's aid grant in a certain manner at the
request of the local public housing authority; requiring the money deducted from
the aid grant to be paid to the public housing authority or its authorized agent;
defining certain terms; providing for a delayed effective date; defining certain
terms; requiring a certain notification; requiring certain reports; providing for the
termination of this Act; and generally relating to rent deductions from AFDC aid to
recipients who are tenants of public housing.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article 88A - Social Services Administration
17C.
(A) (1) IN THIS SECTION THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.
(2) "DELINQUENT TENANT" MEANS ANY TENANT OF PUBLIC HOUSING WHO
HAS BEEN 30 OR MORE DAYS DELINQUENT IN PAYING THE TENANT'S FULL
MONTHLY RENT TO A PUBLIC HOUSING AUTHORITY.
(2) (3) "PUBLIC HOUSING" MEANS ANY DWELLING UNIT OWNED,
LEASED, OR MANAGED BY A PUBLIC HOUSING AUTHORITY.
(3) (4) "PUBLIC HOUSING AUTHORITY" MEANS ANY OF THE PUBLIC
CORPORATIONS CREATED UNDER ARTICLE 44A OF THE CODE OR THEIR DESIGNEES.
(B) IF A RECIPIENT OF AID TO FAMILIES WITH DEPENDENT CHILDREN (AFDC)
IS A DELINQUENT TENANT OF PUBLIC HOUSING, THE SOCIAL SERVICES
ADMINISTRATION OR THE LOCAL DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES. THE INCOME
MAINTENANCE ADMINISTRATION, AT THE REQUEST OF THE LOCAL PUBLIC
HOUSING AUTHORITY, SHALL:
