1995 LAWS OF MARYLAND
FOR the purpose of authorizing the State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors
to adopt regulations to allow certain individuals to provide certain activities under
certain circumstances; altering a certain definition; prohibiting certain persons from
making certain representations or using a certain title; creating an exception to a
certain prohibition under certain circumstances; establishing certain penalties for
subsequent convictions of certain misdemeanors; defining a certain term; and
generally relating to the use of the term "counselor" altering certain restrictions on
the practice of psychology; altering the right of certain persons to provide certain
services; authorizing certain individuals and entities to engage in certain activities and
provide certain services under certain circumstances; exempting from a certain provision
of law certain services performed by certified school psychologists; requiring the
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and the State Department of Education
and other certain persons to report to the certain standing committees of the
General Assembly by a certain date; providing for the effective date of this Act; and
generally relating to the scope of practice under the State Board of Examiners of
Professional Counselors and the State Board of Examiners of Psychologists.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:
Article - Health Occupations
17-101.
(a) In this title the following words have the meanings indicated.
(b) "Appraisal" means:
(1) Selecting, administering, scoring, and interpreting instruments designed
to assess an individual's aptitudes, attitudes, abilities, achievements, interests, and
personal characteristics; and
(2) Using nonstandardized methods and techniques for understanding
human behavior in relation to coping with, adapting to, or changing life situations.
(e) "Board" means the State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors.
