(d) Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, and except for funds
received from the Department and the Maryland Transportation Authority for services
rendered under agreements with the Department and the Maryland Transportation
Authority, the salaries and expenses of the DEPARTMENT OF [Maryland] State Police
and the State Police Retirement System shall be paid from the general funds of this State.

DRAFTER'S NOTE:

Subsections (b)(2) and (d) of this section are amended to reflect the
establishment of the Department of State Police as a principal department of
State government by Chs. 165 and 166, Acts of 1994 and to delete surplus
language.

(d) (2) When the Administration receives a certification by the
[Superintendent] SECRETARY of the [Maryland] State Police that a vehicle is entitled
to an exemption under this subsection, the Administration shall issue an exemption
permit on the form the [Superintendent] SECRETARY OF THE STATE POLICE approves.
The form shall be carried at all times by the driver of the vehicle for which it is issued or
in a conspicuous place on the vehicle.

(4) The [Superintendent] SECRETARY of the [Maryland] State Police:

(i) May require a certificate of inspection of the equipment of the
vehicle; and

(ii) Shall require a certificate of insurance by a company authorized to
do business in this State, certifying that the vehicle is insured to the same extent as
required of vehicles registered in this State.

DRAFTER'S NOTE:

Subsection (d)(2) and (4) of this section is amended to reflect the status of the
head of the Department of State Police as the Secretary of a principal
department of State government in light of Chs. 165 and 166, Acts of 1994,
and to delete surplus language.

(a) (2) An application under paragraph (1) of this subsection shall be
accompanied by:

(ii) A certificate of inspection issued by a county police department or
the DEPARTMENT OF State Police; and
