AN ACT concerning

Task Force to Review the State's Election Law

FOR the purpose of creating a Task Force to Review the State's Election Law; specifying
the composition, powers, and duties of the Task Force; requiring the Task Force to
report its findings and recommendations by a certain date; providing for the
termination of this Act; making this Act an emergency measure; and generally
relating to the Task Force to Review the State's Election Law.

Preamble

WHEREAS, The assurance of open and fair election procedures is at the core of
the principles of democracy on which our country was founded; and

WHEREAS, It is essential that steps be taken to analyze the State's election law,
and its implementation by the boards of election supervisors, to recommend any
necessary changes in statutes, regulations, and procedures and in the voting and vote
counting process; now, therefore,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

(A)     THERE IS A TASK FORCE TO REVIEW THE STATE'S ELECTION LAW.

(B)     THE TASK FORCE SHALL BE COMPOSED OF 13 MEMBERS APPOINTED AS
FOLLOWS:

(1) THREE TWO MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES; WITH
REPRESENTATION FROM BOTH MAJOR POLITICAL PARTIES, APPOINTED BY THE
SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE AND ONE MEMBER OF THE HOUSE APPOINTED BY THE
MINORITY LEADER OF THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES;
