Chapter 293 of the Acts of 1994

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1994. [It shall remain effective for a period of one year and, at the end of June 30,
1996, with no further action required by the General Assembly, this Act shall be
abrogated and of no further force and effect.]

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1995.

AN ACT concerning

Family Law - Child Abduction

FOR the purpose of altering the age of a child to whom certain provisions of law relating
to child abduction apply; and generally relating to abduction of a child by a relative
from the lawful custodian of the child.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

9-301.

(a)     In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.

(b)     (1) "Lawful custodian" means a person who is authorized to have custody of
and exercise control over a child who is under the age of [12] 16 years.

(2) "Lawful custodian" includes a person who is authorized" to have custody
by an order of a court of competent jurisdiction in this State or any other state.

(c)     "Relative" means:

(1)     a parent;

(2)     a grandparent or other ancestor;

(3)     a brother;
