AN ACT concerning

Education - Calvert County - Public Transportation for Nonpublic School Students

FOR the purpose of permitting the Calvert County Board of Education to provide certain
students attending certain nonpublic schools in the county with transportation to
and from school; specifying certain limitations, terms, and conditions regarding the
transportation of nonpublic school students on public school buses or other vehicles
in Calvert County; providing that the Calvert County Board of Education is not
responsible for the safety of nonpublic school students transported on public school
buses after they are discharged from the public school buses and may not be held
civilly liable for acts or omissions that occur after the students are discharged from
the public school buses; and generally relating to the transportation of students
attending certain nonpublic schools in Calvert County on public school buses or
other vehicles.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

7-601.

(A) (1) IN THIS SECTION THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.

(2)      "NONPUBLIC SCHOOL" MEANS AN ELEMENTARY OR SECONDARY
SCHOOL IN CALVERT COUNTY THAT DOES NOT RECEIVE STATE AID.

(3)     "PUBLIC SCHOOL BUS" INCLUDES ANY OTHER CONVEYANCE USED
TO TRANSPORT STUDENTS TO A PUBLIC SCHOOL.

[(a)] (B) At its own expense, a county governing body may provide transportation
for public school students in addition to the transportation provided by the State.
