90. and Assigns, all and singular the articles or property hereinafter expressed and mentioned, that is to say, one Negro Boy called John about twelve years of age, a slave for life, and one Gray Mare, unto the said John W. D. Travers, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns, to his and their own use and behoof: Provided Always, and it is declared to be the true intent and meaning of these presents that if the said William Partridge do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said John W. D. Travers, his Executors, Administrators or Assigns the full sum of Three hundred dollars, current money, in order that the said John W. D. Travers may be prepared to pay the amount of the aforesaid securityship, with legal interest for the same, on or before the twelfth day of February one thousand eight hundred and forty nine, then and in that case these presents and every matter and thing herein contained shall cease, determine and be utterly void to all intents and purposes, any thing herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding: And the said William Partridge, his heirs, executors or Administrators, shall and will well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said John W. D. Travers, his executors, Administrators or Assigns, the said sum of Three hundred dollars, current money, together with interest for the same, after the state aforesaid, at such time and after such manner as herein before set forth and agreed for the payment thereof. In Witness whereof the said William Partridge hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first herein before written. Witnesses, James Hammersly his William Fooks William x Partridge (seal) mark State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on this third day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight, before me the subscriber, one of the Justices of the Peace of the state of Maryland in and for Dorchester County, personally appeared William Partridge Mortgagor in the aforegoing Indenture, or bill of sale, and doth acknowledge the said Indenture or instrument of Writing to be his act and deed, according to the purport, true intent and meaning of the same and the Acts of Assembly in such case made and provided. And also at the same time and place before me, the said Justice of the Peace, personally appeared John W. D. Travers, Mortgage in the foregoing Indenture and made Oath that the consideration set forth in the said Indenture or bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth. Taken, acknowledged & sworn before, James Hammersly Rec.d April 4 1848 of John W. D. Travers one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this deed of Mortgage. Wm Jackson Clk |
