44. Jackson and acknowledges the within instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Act of Assembly in such case made and provided. Rawleigh Be it remembered that the following Release of Mortgage from Ex.d was recorded on the 30.th day of December 1847, To wit: William Jackson {Stamp} This Indenture made this 30.th day of December {25 cts} in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty seven between William Jackson of Dorchester County and State of Maryland of the one part and Noah J. Rawleigh of same county and state of the other part Whereas the said Noah J. Rawleigh by his Indenture of Mortgage bearing date on the twenty ninth day of December in the year Eighteen hundred and forty six duly executed, acknowledged and recorded in Liber W. J. N.o 2 folia 400 & 401 one of the chattel record Books of Dorchester County did for and in consideration of the sum of Five hundred dollars current money grant, bargain and sell unto the said William Jackson, his heirs and Assigns the following Negroes slaves for life, to wit: Boy Jinkins then about Eighteen years of age woman Emily then about twenty five years of age and her female child Maria then about Eighteen months old with a proviso "that if the said Noah J. Rawleigh should well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said William Jackson, his Executors, Administrators or Assigns the full sum of Five hundred dollars current money with legal interest for the same on or before the first day of January in the year Eighteen hundred and forty eight then and in such case these presents and every matter and thing therein contained should cease determine and be utterly void to all intents and purposes any thing therein contained to the contrary notwithstanding" A reference being had to the aforesaid deed of Mortgage will more fully and at large appear: And Whereas the said Noah J. Rawleigh has fully paid and satisfied to him the said William Jackson the above mentioned sum of money and interest thereon he the said William Jackson agrees to execute this instrument of writing as a full release of the above mentioned Negro Slaves Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said William Jackson for and in consideration of the payment of the above sum of Money and the interest thereon and for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar current money to him in hand paid by the said Noah J. Rawleigh the receipt whereof he the said William Jackson doth hereby acknowledge and himself to be fully satisfied contented and paid has and by these presents does grant, bargain and sell unto him the said Noah J. Rawleigh his heirs and Assigns to his and their only proper use and benefit and to and for no other use, intent or purpose whatever.
