153 of Sale for Negro man Joe to be their act and deed for the purposes intents and meaning therein mentioned and expressed according to their tenor thereof. And the aforesaid Wm G Horsey being duly sworn on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God deposeth and sayeth that the transactions described in the within Bill of Sale was and is a bonafide sale and purchase and that the amount of the purchase Money was duly paid for and in consideration of the purchase of Negro man Joe therein named. Acknowledged and sworn to before the subscriber on the day and year first above written Geo A L Smith Received January 29 1849 of Wm G Horsey one Dollar in lieu of a Stamp on this Bill of Sale Wm Jackson Clk William Collison Be it remembered that the following Deed of Manumission was Ex.d To 55 recorded on the 29th day of January 1849 To Wit Negro Israel Coleman Maryland Dorchester County To wit To all whom it may concern be it known that I William Collison of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving as also in further Consideration of the sum of one Dollar current money to me in hand paid have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free, and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate Manumit and Set free my negro man Israel Coleman being of the age of thirty three years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and Maintenance and him the said Negro man named Israel Coleman I do declare to be free from and after the expiration of the year Eighteen Hundred and fifty one that is on the first day of January eighteen hundred & fifty two and from thenceforth manumitted and discharged from all manner of Servitude or Service to me my executors or administrators for ever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 29 January in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty nine Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of us William Collison (Seal) John W Traverse William Rea State of Maryland Dorchester County To wit Be it remembered that on the 29 day of January in the Year of Our Lord Eighteen Hundred and forty nine personally appeared before the undersigned a Justice of the peace in and for said County William Collison within named and Acknowledged the within deed of Manumission to be his act and deed according to the purport true intent and meaning of the same and the acts of assembly in Such Case made & provided. Acknowledged before John W Traverse Thomas C Jones Be it remembered that the following Bill of Sale was recorded on the Ex.d from 135 29th day of January 1849 To wit Alexander W Jones Know all men by these presents that I Alexander W Jones of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of Four hundred and five Dollars Current Money to me in hand paid by Thomas C Jones of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I the said Alexander W Jones do hereby acknowledge have granted, |
