132 State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: Be it remembered that on this fourth day of October in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty eight, personally appeared Miles Tindal J.r, the party grantor within named, before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace for & in the County and state aforesaid, and acknowledged the within instrument of writing to be his Act and deed, and the goods, household stuff and furniture therein mentioned, and thereby bargained and sold, to be the right and estate of the within named Margaret Tindal, party grantee, also therein named, her heirs and Assigns forever, according to the purport, true intent and meaning of the said instrument of writing and the Acts of Assembly in such Cases made & provided. Acknowledged before John D. Stevens, a Justice of the Peace State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: On this fourth day of October in the year of Our Lord Eighteen hundred & forty eight, personally appeared Margaret Tindal before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace, for and in the County & state aforesaid, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in the within instrument of writing is true & Bona fide as therein set forth, so help her God. Sworn before John D. Stevens, a Justice of the Peace. Henry Bibby Be it remembered that the following Deed of Ex.d to 50 Manumission was recorded October 10.th 1848, To wit: John Slacum To all whom it may concern, be it known that I, Henry Bibby, of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland, for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving, have released from slavery, liberated, manumitted & set free, and by these presents do hereby release from Slavery, liberate, manumit and set free, my negro man named John Slacum, aged about thirty three years, and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood & maintenance, from and after the expiration of the period of five years from the first day of January next, which time will expire on the first day of January Eighteen hundred and fifty five After the expiration of which said period of time, I do declare the said Negro Man, John Slacum, to be free and discharged from all manner of service or servitude, to me, my heirs, executors and Administrators forever. In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this tenth day of October in the year Eighteen hundred and forty eight.
