In subsection (b)(1)(i) of this section, the requirement for "complet[ing] a
claim for service credit and fil[ing] it with the Board of Trustees on a form
that the Board of Trustees provides" is made to apply to all purchases of
service credit under this section instead of only those under former Art. 73B,
§§ 2-305(a)(1) and (2) and 3-305(a)(1), (3), and (4) for clarity, consistent with
the practice of the Board of Trustees.

In subsection (b)(1)(ii) of this section, the reference to "the Board of
Trustees" is added to clarify to whom the payment is to be made.

In subsection (b)(4)(i) of this section, the reference to a member who "dies
while employed as a member" is substituted for the former reference to a
"member in service" to reflect that "service" is no longer a defined term.

In subsection (c)(3) of this section, the reference to "municipal corporation" is
deleted as included in the broad reference to political subdivision.

22-306. SAME — SERVICE CREDIT FOR ELECTED OR APPOINTED OFFICIALS.

(A)     IN GENERAL.

AN ELECTED OR APPOINTED OFFICIAL WHO ELECTED TO BECOME A MEMBER
OF THE EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM MAY RECEIVE SERVICE CREDIT FOR
PREVIOUS SERVICE AS AN OFFICIAL WITH THE STATE OR A PARTICIPATING
GOVERNMENTAL UNIT INCLUDING SERVICE AS AN OFFICIAL BEFORE THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF THE EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM.

(B)     APPLICATION FOR CREDIT.

TO RECEIVE SERVICE CREDIT FOR PREVIOUS SERVICE, AN ELECTED OR
APPOINTED OFFICIAL SHALL COMPLETE A CLAIM FOR THE SERVICE CREDIT AND
FILE IT WITH THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES ON A FORM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
PROVIDES.

(C)     PAYMENT OF EMPLOYER COST — SERVICE WITH PARTICIPATING
GOVERNMENTAL UNIT.

(1) ON RECEIVING A CLAIM FOR SERVICE CREDIT FOR SERVICE AS AN
OFFICIAL WITH A PARTICIPATING GOVERNMENTAL UNIT, THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
SHALL:

(I) VERIFY THE PREVIOUS SERVICE AND THE AMOUNT OF
SERVICE CREDIT TO WHICH THE MEMBER IS ENTITLED;
