(3)  DURING WHICH A MEMBER HELD AN EMERGENCY TEACHING
CERTIFICATE;                                  

(4)      AS A MEMBER OF THE STATE POLICE RETIREMENT SYSTEM FOR
WHICH THE MEMBER WAS NOT VESTED IN THAT STATE SYSTEM;

(5)     WHEN. MEMBERSHIP WAS MANDATORY BUT FOR WHICH MEMBER
CONTRIBUTIONS WERE NOT MADE;

(6)     WHEN THE MEMBER WAS ON AN EMPLOYER-APPROVED LEAVE OF
ABSENCE NOT EXCEEDING 2 YEARS THAT HAS QUALIFIED FOR PURCHASE UNDER
REGULATIONS ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES; OR

(7)     AS A MEMBER OF THE EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM OR THE
TEACHERS' RETIREMENT SYSTEM FOR WHICH THE MEMBER HAD WITHDRAWN THE
MEMBER'S ACCUMULATED CONTRIBUTIONS AFTER A PRIOR TERMINATION OF
MEMBERSHIP.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived; without substantive
change from former Art. 73B, §§ 2-303, 2-304, 3-303, and 3-304.

In subsection (a) of this section, the phrase "for which the member is not
otherwise entitled to service credit" is added to clarify that a member may not
receive duplicate service credit for the same period of employment.

In subsection (b)(1)(i) of this section, the reference to "complet[ing] a claim
for service credit and fil[ing] it with the Board of Trustees on a form that the
Board of Trustees provides" is added to state expressly that which formerly
only was implied — i.e., that a completed claim must be filed for the service
credit.

In subsection (b)(1)(ii) of this section, the reference to payment to "the Board
of Trustees" is added to clarify to whom the payment is to be made.

In subsection (c)(1)(xi) of this section, the references to employment by "a
standing committee or delegation of the Senate or House of Delegates", "the
office of the assistant to the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House
of Delegates", and "any division under the jurisdiction of the President of the
Senate and Speaker of the House of Delegates within those offices" are
deleted as included in the comprehensive reference to employment by "a
member of the Senate or House of Delegates".
