S.B.6                                                      VETOES

FOR the purpose of continuing the Governor's Office for Individuals with Disabilities in
accordance with the Maryland Program Evaluation Act by extending to a certain
date the termination provision relating to the statutory and regulatory authority of
the Office; defining a certain term; altering the composition of the Maryland
Advisory Council for Individuals with Disabilities; requiring the Maryland Advisory
Council for Individuals with Disabilities to assist local governing bodies to establish local
advisory councils for individuals with disabilities for a certain purpose; making stylistic
changes;
and providing for the effective date of this Act.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article - State Government

Section 9-1107 and 9-1110 Section 9-1101, 9-1103(c), 9-1105, 9-1107, 9-1109, and

9-1110

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - State Government

9-1101.

(a)     In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.

(b)     "Council" means the Maryland Advisory Council for Individuals with Disabilities.

(c)      "Director" means the Director of the Office.

(D) "DISABILITY", WITH RESPECT TO AN INDIVIDUAL, HAS THE MEANING STATED
IN THE FEDERAL AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT OF 1990, 42 U.S.C. § 12102.

[(d)](E) "Office" means the Office for Individuals with Disabilities.

9-1103.

(c) The Director shall have professional experience in program administration and
experience in working with [handicapped]
individuals WITH DISABILITIES.

9-1105.

The Office shall:

(1)     identify and evaluate the programs and services for [handicapped]
individuals WITH DISABILITIES in the State;

(2)     collect information to identify programs and services that [handicapped]
individuals WITH DISABILITIES need;

(3)     identify barriers to the delivery of adequate services and recommend
procedures to remove the barriers;
