1994 JOINT RESOLUTIONS
WHEREAS, Fire, rescue, and emergency personnel risk their lives on a daily
basis to provide essential emergency services to the citizens of Maryland; and
WHEREAS, The General Assembly intends to recognize the valuable
contributions and proud history of fire, rescue, and emergency personnel throughout the
State during National Fire Prevention Week each year; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the
Governor, the County Executives or County Commissioners in each county, and the
Mayors of each municipality are urged to issue a proclamation on the Sunday of National
Fire Prevention Week in October of each year:
(1) to honor paid and volunteer fire fighters, emergency medical
technicians, rescue personnel, and sworn officers of the State Fire Marshal's Office;
(2) to encourage appropriate memorial services for deceased members of
paid and volunteer fire fighters, emergency medical technicians, rescue personnel, and
sworn officers of the State Fire Marshal's Office; and
(3) to encourage the holding of an open house and other appropriate
activities at fire, emergency, and rescue facilities throughout the State so that the public
may attend fire safety lectures and become more aware of the critical public services that
fire, emergency, and rescue personnel render to the citizens of this State; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded by the Department of
Legislative Reference to the Honorable William Donald Schaefer, Governor of
Maryland; the Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr., President of the Senate of
Maryland; the Honorable R. Clayton Mitchell, Jr., Speaker of the House of Delegates;
Rocco J. Gabriele, State Fire Marshal, 106 Old Court Road, Suite 300, Pikesville, MD
21208; William J. Fleshman, President, Maryland State Firemen's Association, 17 State
Circle, Annapolis, MD 21401; Ron Milor, President, Maryland-District of Columbia
Professional Fire Fighters Association, 3106 Mitchellville Road, Bowie, MD 20716; and

A House Joint Resolution concerning
Adoption of Opportunity to Learn Standards for Maryland Public Schools
FOR the purpose of requesting the State Board of Education to adopt Opportunity to
Learn Standards for all Maryland Public schools in consultation with state teacher
and parent organizations and in response to assessments conducted at each school
site; directing the State Department of Education to assist local Boards of
