A Senate Joint Resolution concerning

State of Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame

FOR the purpose of recognizing the State of Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame as the
official Sports Hall of Fame in the State; encouraging continued support of the Hall
of Fame; and endorsing the use of the State Seal by the Hall of Fame.

WHEREAS, The Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame has been honoring our State's
sports stars since 1956; and

WHEREAS, The Hall of Fame gives formal recognition to the athletic
accomplishments of Marylanders who have gone on to national and international glory;
and

WHEREAS, Among those men and women enshrined in the Hall of Fame are
baseball heroes Babe Ruth, Jimmy Foxx, "Lefty" Grove, Al Kaline, Tom Phoebus, and
"Moose" Haas, football players Jack Scarbath, Chuck Foreman, and Dick Bielski,
basketball player and coach Gene Shue, golfer Deane Beman, and duckpin bowler Toots
Barger; and

WHEREAS, The Hall of Fame recently inducted tennis star Pam Shriver, pro
football tight end Jean Fugett, college football star Arthur "Otis" Brandau, and champion
jouster Mary Lou Bartram; and

WHEREAS, The Hall of Fame has been in existence for 38 years and has honored
156 deserving Marylanders; and

WHEREAS, The Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame is a source of pride for all
Marylanders, young and old; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That the State
of Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame is recognized as the official Sports Hall of Fame of the
State; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Hall of Fame should continue to receive appropriate levels
of funding from the State on a yearly basis; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame should continue to use the
State Seal for its official purposes; and be it further
