Ch. 632

Police; clarifying which police communications operators are entitled to extra
compensation for work on certain holidays; and generally relating to compensation
for work on certain holidays by certain law enforcement employees.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article - State Personnel and Pensions
Section 6-308(c)
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1993 Volume)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - State Personnel and Pensions

6-308.

(c) A law enforcement employee of the Maryland State Police holding a
noncommissioned rank, A LAW ENFORCEMENT EMPLOYEE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF
NATURAL RESOURCES HOLDING A RANK OF SERGEANT OR BELOW, or [any] police
communications operator OF THE MARYLAND STATE POLICE OR NATURAL
RESOURCES POLICE who is required to work 4 or more hours on New Year's Day,
Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day, or who is scheduled to be off duty on New Year's
Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day and is called to duty on any part of that day is
entitled to:

(1)     compensatory time of 1 day; and

(2)     payment at the rate of one and one-half times the employee's regular
hourly rate of pay for each hour worked on that day.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 1994.

AN ACT concerning

Fire Fighters, Rescue Squad Members, and Paramedics - Criminal Record Check

FOR the purpose of specifying that certain employing units may request the State Fire
Marshal or other authorized agency to conduct a criminal record check on an
applicant for employment or appointment as a volunteer or paid fire fighter, rescue
squad member, or paramedic; authorizing the State Fire Marshal or designated
authority to request that a certain applicant for employment or appointment furnish
a set of fingerprints for submission to the Criminal Justice Information System
