THIS TITLE MAY BE CITED AS THE "MARYLAND ACUPUNCTURE ACT".

SUBJECT TO THE EVALUATION AND REESTABLISHMENT PROVISIONS OF THE
PROGRAM EVALUATION ACT, THIS TITLE AND ALL RULES AND REGULATIONS
ADOPTED UNDER THIS TITLE SHALL TERMINATE AND BE OF NO EFFECT AFTER
JULY 1, 2005.

Subject to the rules, regulations, and orders of the Board, the following individuals
may practice medicine without a license:
[(4) An individual while performing acupuncture in accordance with §
14-506 of this title;]
14-506.
(a) [(1)]In this section [the following words have the meanings indicated.
(2)] "Council" means the Acupuncture Advisory Council.
[(3) "General supervision" means the supervising, licensed physician shall:
(i) Perform or review the results of a recently performed medical
diagnostic examination with respect to any ailment or condition to be treated by
acupuncture prior to such treatment;
(ii) Be personally available for consultation on the promises or be
available by telephone contact, chart review, or by other means approved by the Board;
and
(iii) If required as a matter of sound medical practice, place conditions
and restrictions on the course of treatment.]
(b) (A) This section does not apply to a dentist performing acupuncture in
connection with the practice of dentistry if the dentist is licensed or otherwise authorized
to practice dentistry under Title 4 of this article.
(c) (B) [An] UNLESS LICENSED UNDER TITLE 1A OF THIS ARTICLE,
[individual, including] a physician[,] shall be registered by the Board before the
[individual] PHYSICIAN may perform acupuncture in this State.
(d) (C) The Board shall register to perform acupuncture any [individual]
PHYSICIAN who meets the following requirements:
(1) [Education, training, or demonstrated experience;]
