CHAPTER 437
(House Bill 1449)

AN ACT concerning

Licensure - Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration - Forced Air

Systems

FOR the purpose of providing for a limited license to be issued exclusively to maintain or
repair forced air heating or hydronic systems; defining and altering certain terms;
allowing an applicant for a certain master restricted license, under certain
circumstances, to have been employed in providing either forced air heating services
or hydronic heating services; allowing an applicant for a limited license under this
Act, under certain circumstances, to have been employed in providing either forced
air heating services or hydronic services; and generally relating to qualifications for
certain licenses to provide heating and hydronic services.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Section 9A-101 and 9A-302
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1992 Volume and 1993 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read 'as follows:

Article - Business Regulation

9A-101.

(a)     In this [subtitle] TITLE the following words have the meanings indicated.

(b)     "Board" means the State Board of Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning,
and Refrigeration Contractors.

(c)     "Contractor" means a heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration
contractor.

(d)     (1) "Cooling system" means a system in which heat is removed from air,
surrounding surfaces, or both.

(2) "Cooling system" includes an air-conditioning system.

(E) "FORCED AIR SYSTEM" MEANS A HEATING SYSTEM THAT USES AIR BEING
MOVED BY MECHANICAL MEANS TO TRANSMIT HEAT.

[(e)](F) (1) "Heating system" means a system in which heat is transmitted by
radiation, conduction, or convection, or a combination of any of these methods, to the air,
surrounding surfaces, or both.
