Ch. 378                                    1994 LAWS OF MARYLAND

F. The authority granted to impose a transfer tax under this section shall
terminate and be of no effect after July 1, [1995] 2000.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1994.

AN ACT concerning                                     .

St. Mary's County - Elected Board of Education - Straw Poll

FOR the purpose of requiring that at the general election held in November, 1994, a
question shall be placed on the ballot in St. Mary's County to canvass the opinion of
the voters on having an elected board of education; providing that the results of the
straw poll shall have no binding or legal effect; requiring the Board of Supervisors
of Elections of St. Mary's County to take certain actions; and generally relating to a
straw poll of the voters of St. Mary's County concerning whether the County shall
have an elected board of education.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That a straw poll shall be conducted in St. Mary's County at the general
election to be held in November, 1994, to canvass the opinion of the voters on whether St.
Mary's County should have an elected board of education. The Board of Supervisors of
Elections of St. Mary's County shall do those things necessary and proper to provide for
and hold the straw poll herein required. There shall be printed on the ballot to be used at
the election the title "Elected County Board of Education - Straw Poll" and under the
title, on separate lines, the words "For establishing an elected board of education in place
of the appointed board in St. Mary's County" and the words "Against establishing an
elected board of education in place of the appointed board in St. Mary's County",
whereby a voter may select one but not both of the two options. The straw poll required
by this Act is intended to canvass the opinion of the voters of St. Mary's County and the
results shall have no binding or legal effect.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, for the sole purpose of
providing for the straw poll herein required, this Act shall take effect July 1, 1994.
