1994 LAWS OF MARYLAND

[(4)] (5) (i) The County Commissioners of Calvert County may provide in
their annual budget for a pension to be paid to the surviving spouse, if any, of any Sheriff
of Calvert County who was in office as of October, 1970.

(ii) The pension shall be in the amount of $250 a month and shall be
paid to the surviving spouse, if any, for the life of that surviving spouse.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III,
Section 35 of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may not be construed to extend or
apply to the salary or compensation of the Calvert County Sheriff in office on the
effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the salary or
compensation of the Calvert County Sheriff shall take effect at the beginning of the next
following term of office.

SECTION 3. AND, BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 19,94.

AN ACT concerning

Criminal Law - Sentences

FOR the purpose of clarifying the law relating to the start of a consecutive sentence
where custody in multiple jurisdictions is involved; establishing the start of a
sentence made consecutive to a period of parole by modifying the holding in Gantt
v. State; affirming the obligation to serve the balance of a concurrent sentence in
the Division of Correction where release from custody is granted by another
jurisdiction by overruling State v. Parker; providing for the effective date of this Act;
defining certain terms; and generally relating to criminal sentences.
