7-508.

(a)      The [Secretary] APPOINTING AUTHORITY may advance to an employee up
to 60 days of sick leave in a calendar year for use during the employee's serious illness or
disability.

(b)     Advanced sick leave may not be used for any purpose other than as specified
in subsection (a) of this section.

(C)      UPON REQUEST BY THE EMPLOYEE THE SECRETARY MAY APPROVE
ADVANCED SICK LEAVE FOR AN EMPLOYEE IF THE SECRETARY DISAGREES WITH A
DETERMINATION OF AN APPOINTING AUTHORITY DENYING ADVANCED SICK
LEAVE.

(D)     THE SECRETARY MAY AUDIT THE GRANTING OF ADVANCED SICK LEAVE
BY APPOINTING AUTHORITIES.

7-509.

(a)      An employee who has at least 5 years of State service may apply to the
[Secretary] EMPLOYEE'S APPOINTING AUTHORITY for extended sick leave.

(b)     Except as provided in subsection (c) of this section, the [Secretary]
APPOINTING AUTHORITY may authorize extended sick leave for up to 1 year if:

(1)      the employee has an illness or disability that will cause an absence from
work for longer than the period of the employee's accumulated sick leave;

(2)      [the head of the employee's principal department or other independent
unit recommends the extended leave;

(3)] the employee has exhausted all available advanced sick leave; and

[(4)] (3) the [Secretary] APPOINTING AUTHORITY is satisfied that the
case has merit.

(c). The [Secretary] APPOINTING AUTHORITY may not authorize extended sick
leave for any period that, when added to the total of all available annual, personal, sick,
and advanced sick leave, exceeds 15 months.                                                 

(d) An employee may not use extended sick leave for any purpose other than as
specified in subsection (b)(1), of this section.

(E)      UPON REQUEST BY THE EMPLOYEE, THE SECRETARY MAY APPROVE
EXTENDED, SICK LEAVE FOR AN EMPLOYEE IF THE SECRETARY DISAGREES WITH A
DETERMINATION OF AN APPOINTING AUTHORITY DENYING EXTENDED SICK
LEAVE.

(F) THE SECRETARY MAY AUDIT THE GRANTING OF EXTENDED SICK LEAVE
BY APPOINTING AUTHORITIES.
