AN ACT concerning

Baltimore City Sheriffs Salary

FOR the purpose of increasing the annual salary of the Sheriff of Baltimore City by
certain amounts in certain years; providing that this Act does not apply to the salary
of the incumbent Sheriff; and generally relating to the salary of the Sheriff of
Baltimore City.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

(d) (1) (i) In Baltimore City, the Sheriff shall receive AN EXPENSE
ALLOWANCE OF $1,000 PER YEAR AND a salary of*

1. [$11,500] $58,000 IN CALENDAR YEAR 1995;

2. $60,000 IN CALENDAR YEAR 1996;

3. $62,000 IN CALENDAR YEAR 1997; AND

4. $65,000 IN CALENDAR YEAR 1998 AND EACH YEAR
THEREAFTER [and an expense allowance of $1,000 per year] $56,000.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III,
Section 35 of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may not be construed to extend or
apply to the salary or compensation of the Sheriff of Baltimore City in office on the
effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the salary or
compensation of the Sheriff of Baltimore City shall take effect at the beginning of the
next following term of office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect
October 1, 1994.
