WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, Governor                           Ch. 12

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Transportation

[16-103.2.

(a)     (1) An individual may not drive a Type I school vehicle (school bus) on any
highway in this State unless he holds:

(i) A driver's license issued under this subtitle of a class that
authorizes him to drive the particular type of vehicle; and

(ii) A certificate issued by the Administration stating that the holder
meets the vision requirements of § 16-110.1(a) and (b) of this subtitle.

(2) On application by a holder of a driver's license, the Administration shall
issue without charge a certificate, valid for 4 years, stating that the applicant meets the
vision requirements of § 16-110.1(a) and (b) of this subtitle, if the applicant:

(i) Is found to meet these vision requirements on being tested by the
Administration; or

(ii) Presents a written certification acceptable to the Administration
from a licensed physician or optometrist attesting that the applicant meets these vision
requirements.

(b)     An individual may drive a Type II school vehicle if:

(1)     He is at least 18 years old;

(2)     He holds a driver's license issued under this subtitle of a class that
authorizes him to drive the particular type of vehicle; and

(3)     He passes an appropriate medical examination.

(c)     This section applies to any license issued or renewed on or before December
31, 1989.]

16-816.

(a)     An individual may not drive a school vehicle (school bus) on any highway in
this state unless the individual:

(1)     Passes an appropriate medical examination; and

(2)     Has been issued [:

(i) A] A commercial driver's license endorsed passenger vehicle[; or

(ii) A Class A, B, or C driver's license issued under § 16-104 of this
article and was employed as a school vehicle driver before January 1, 1990].

(b)     With the advice of the State Department of Education, the Administration
may adopt regulations concerning the qualifications of school vehicle drivers.
