General Fund Appropriation, provided that
the $3 million increase, over the FY 1993
revised appropriation for the Extended
Elementary Education Program be
distributed in the same proportion as
anticipated by the department in January of
1993 when it estimated the distribution for
the $6 million increase.

Further provided that at least $240,000 of these
funds be used to fund at least four sites in the
State that provide for a public/private
partnership to integrate extended elementary
education program services with child care
programs. It is the intent of the General
Assembly that the Maryland State Department
of Education award these funds on a pilot
basis to determine the feasibility of providing
integrated programs that allow for a full day of
services to preschool students. The department
should, to the greatest extent practicable,
establish pilot sites in different geographic
regions of the State..........................................
