May 27, 1993

The Honorable R. Clayton Mitchell, Jr.
Speaker of the House of Delegates
State House
Annapolis, Maryland 21401

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland Constitution, I have today,
vetoed House Bill 456.

This bill would clarify that a bank may remain open or closed on State legal holidays when
there is no corresponding federal holiday.

Senate Bill 407, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed by me on May 27,
1993, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House
Bill 456.

Sincerely,

William Donald Schaefer

Governor

House Bill No. 456

AN ACT concerning

Financial Institutions - Legal Holidays

FOR the purpose of providing that banking institutions in the State may remain open or
be closed on certain legal holidays under certain circumstances.
