stop and yield the right-of-way to certain vessels under certain circumstances;
establishing that use of a public safety identification light signal does not convey any
special privilege to the vessel; defining a certain term; providing for the effective
date of this Act; and generally relating to the display and operation of certain
flashing lights or signal devices public safety identification light signals.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Section 8-727.1
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1990 Replacement Volume and 1992 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Natural Resources

8-727.1.

(A) (1) IN THIS SECTION "PUBLIC SAFETY ACTIVITY" INCLUDES:

(I) PATROLLING A MARINE PARADE, REGATTA, OR SPECIAL
WATER CELEBRATION:

(II) TRAFFIC CONTROL;

(III)   SALVAGE:

(IV)   FIRE FIGHTING;

(V)  . MEDICAL ASSISTANCE;

(VI)   ASSISTING A DISABLED VESSEL; AND

(VII)  SEARCH AND RESCUE.

(2) "PUBLIC SAFETY ACTIVITY" DOES NOT INCLUDE ROUTINE TOWING.

(a) (B) Except as provided in subsection (b) (C) of this section, an individual
who is on a vessel may not display or operate a flashing, alternating red and yellow light
or signal device.

(b) (1) IN THIS SUBSECTION, "PUBLIC SAFETY ACTIVITY" INCLUDES:

(I)     A SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATION;

(II)    A FIRE FIGHTING OPERATION;

(III)   A SALVAGE OPERATION;

(IV)   RENDERING MEDICAL ASSISTANCE;

(V)     RENDERING ASSISTANCE TO A DISABLED VESSEL;
(VI)
   TRAFFIC CONTROL; OR
