(Senate Bill 506)

AN ACT concerning

Real Estate Brokers - Continuing Education

FOR the purpose of altering continuing education requirements for real estate brokers to
require, in a certain license term, a certain number of clock hours of instruction
during a preceding term of licensure; requiring, in and after a certain license term,
a certain number of additional clock hours of instruction during a preceding term of
licensure; requiring, at a certain interval, at least one course of a certain duration
concerning certain legal changes that have occurred during a certain preceding
period; and generally relating to continuing education requirements for real estate
brokers.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Business Occupations and Professions

16-315.

(a)     (1) To qualify for renewal of a license under this subtitle, a licensee shall
complete:

(I)      IN THE LICENSE TERM THAT BEGINS IN 1992, at least 12 clock
hours of continuing education instruction, as provided in this section, during each 2-year
license term; AND

(II)     IN AND AFTER THE LICENSE TERM THAT BEGINS IN 1996, AT
LEAST 15 CLOCK HOURS OF CONTINUING EDUCATION INSTRUCTION, AS PROVIDED
IN THIS SECTION, DURING THE PRECEDING 2-YEAR TERM.

(2) Notwithstanding paragraph (1) of this subsection, if a license is granted
to a licensee during the 2nd year of a license term, the licensee may renew the license for
the next full term without complying with the continuing education requirements of this
section.

(b)     (1) The Commission shall approve the form, substance, and, as provided
under paragraph (2) of this subsection, subject matter of all continuing education courses.

(2) [The subject matter approved by the Commission shall relate to real
estate.] THE SUBJECT MATTER APPROVED BY THE COMMISSION SHALL:
