AN ACT concerning

State Athletic Commission - Jurisdiction Over Boxing, Kick Boxing, and Wrestling

Events

FOR the purpose of clarifying the authority of the State Athletic Commission over
boxing, kick boxing, and wrestling events; clarifying that boxers are required to wear
protective headgear in amateur boxing matches or exhibitions; authorizing the
Commission to seek injunctive relief to prevent unlawful boxing, kick boxing, and
wrestling events; increasing the criminal penalty for the promotion of the
participation in unlawful boxing, kick boxing, and wrestling events; extending drug
testing to kick boxers; clarifying the persons required to obtain a manager or
matchmaker license; and generally relating to the regulation of boxing, kick boxing,
and wrestling events by the State Athletic Commission.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

4-101.

(a)     In this title the following words have the meanings indicated.

(b)     "Boxing" includes sparring.

(c)     "Commission" means the State Athletic Commission.
