WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, Governor

May 25, 1989

The Honorable R. Clayton Mitchell, Jr.
Speaker of the House of Delegates
State House
Annapolis, Maryland 21401

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill 1148.

This bill exempts from civil liability any person who donates
food for use or distribution by a nonprofit corporation.

Senate Bill 680, which was passed by the General Assembly and
signed by me on May 25, 1989, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign House Bill 1148.

Sincerely,

William Donald Schaefer

Governor

House Bill No. 1148

serve or dispense donated food for certain uses; providing
that a certain exemption from civil liability does not apply
in certain circumstances; defining a certain term; and
generally relating to the exemption from civil liability for
persons who donate food or prepare or serve donated food.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
