(2)  DISCHARGES WATER IN A SPECIFIC PATTERN OVER A
DESIGNATED AREA TO EXTINGUISH OR CONTROL FIRE;

(3)  USES THE SAME SERVICE WATER SUPPLY PIPE TO THE
DWELLING UNIT THAT THE DOMESTIC WATER SYSTEM USES;

(4)  MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS OF CURRENT NATIONAL FIRE
PROTECTION ASSOCIATION STANDARDS; AND

(5)  IS APPROVED BY THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL OR THE
LOCAL AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION OVER THE ENFORCEMENT OF FIRE
CODES.

(B)  THIS SECTION DOES NOT APPLY TO A SINGLE-FAMILY
RESIDENTIAL DWELLING THAT DOES NOT OR WILL NOT OBTAIN ITS WATER
SUPPLY FROM A PUBLIC WATER SYSTEM AS DEFINED IN § 9-401(I) OF THE
ENVIRONMENT ARTICLE.

(C)  PRIOR TO THE SIGNING OF A CONTRACT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION
OF A SINGLE-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL DWELLING CONTAINING ALTERNATING
CURRENT (AC) ELECTRICAL SERVICE, A BUILDER SHALL OFFER TO A
PROSPECTIVE BUYER THE OPTION OF HAVING THE BUILDER INSTALL A
SPRINKLER SYSTEM IN THE DWELLING THAT THE BUILDER CONSTRUCTS IF:

(1)  A BUILDING PERMIT FOR THE DWELLING IS ISSUED ON
OR AFTER JULY 1, 1992; OR

(2)  IN A JURISDICTION IN WHICH BUILDING PERMITS ARE
NOT ISSUED, CONSTRUCTION ON THE DWELLING BEGINS ON OR AFTER JULY
1, 1992.

(D)  IF A BUILDER INSTALLS A SPRINKLER SYSTEM IN A
SINGLE-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL DWELLING, THE BUILDER SHALL INSTALL THE
SPRINKLER SYSTEM IN ACCORDANCE WITH ACCEPTED ENGINEERING
PRACTICES THAT MEET STANDARDS ADOPTED IN THE REGULATIONS OF:

(1)  THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL; AND

(2)  THE LOCAL AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION OVER THE
ENFORCEMENT OF FIRE AND BUILDING CODES.

(E)  (1) EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN PARAGRAPH (3) OF THIS
SUBSECTION, THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL OR A LOCAL AUTHORITY HAVING
JURISDICTION OVER THE ENFORCEMENT OF FIRE AND BUILDING CODES MAY
GRANT AN EXCEPTION TO A REQUIREMENT OF A STATE OR LOCAL FIRE AND
BUILDING CODE IF:

(I) A SPRINKLER SYSTEM IS INSTALLED IN A
DWELLING IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS SECTION; AND
