occupations, including nursing, determined to be in short
supply; requiring the State Scholarship Administration, in
consultation with the Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene
to adopt certain regulations and implement the Program;
providing certain eligibility requirements for community
colleges certain institutions of postsecondary education
community colleges; requiring a certain computational
procedure for calculating the amount of grant an eligible
community college institution of postsecondary education
community college may receive; requiring the grant to be
used for certain purposes; requiring the Secretary of Health
and Mental Hygiene to make certain projections on the
availability of certain health occupations; requiring the
State Scholarship Administration to discontinue issuing new
grants under certain circumstances; requiring existing
grants to continue for certain students under certain
circumstances; and generally relating to the establishment
of the Health Manpower Shortage Training Grant Program.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article - Education

18-804.1.

(A) (1) IN THIS SECTION THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE
MEANINGS INDICATED.

(2) "GRANT" MEANS THE HEALTH MANPOWER SHORTAGE

TRAINING GRANT FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGES INSTITUTIONS OF

POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION COMMUNITY COLLEGES OFFERING EDUCATIONAL
PROGRAMS LEADING TO LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION IN HEALTH
OCCUPATIONS DETERMINED TO BE IN SHORT SUPPLY.

(B) (1) THERE IS A HEALTH MANPOWER SHORTAGE TRAINING GRANT
PROGRAM FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGES INSTITUTIONS OF POSTSECONDARY
EDUCATION COMMUNITY COLLEGES.

(2)  THE GRANT PROGRAM SHALL BE ADMINISTERED BY THE
STATE SCHOLARSHIP ADMINISTRATION AS PROVIDED IN THIS SECTION.

(3)  IN CONSULTATION WITH THE SECRETARY OF HEALTH AND
MENTAL HYGIENE, THE ADMINISTRATION SHALL ADOPT REGULATIONS TO
IMPLEMENT THE HEALTH MANPOWER SHORTAGE TRAINING GRANT PROGRAM.
