Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 587.

This bill repeals the sunset date for the Maryland coal tax and
requires an annual meeting with county officials.

House. Bill 721, which was passed by the General Assembly and
signed by me on May 19, 1989, accomplishes the same purpose.
Therefore, it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 587.

AN ACT concerning

Maryland Coal Tax - Repeal of Sunset

FOR the purpose of repealing the provision of law that terminates
as of a certain date the provisions for the Maryland coal
tax in Garrett County and code counties; and providing for
an annual meeting of county officials.

Chapter 769 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1981, as
amended by Chapter 616 of the Acts of the General
Assembly of 1983 and Chapter 671 of the Acts of the
General Assembly of 1987
