WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, Governor
Bills and Messages

May 25, 1989

The Honorable Thomas V. Mike Miller, Jr.

President of the Senate

State House

Annapolis, Maryland 21401

Dear Mr. President:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the Maryland
Constitution, I have today vetoed Senate Bill 38.

This bill raises from $1,000 to $2,500 the amount under which a
corporation officer may appear in District Court on behalf of the
corporation.

House Bill 4, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed
by me on May 25, 1989, accomplishes the same purpose. Therefore,
it is not necessary for me to sign Senate Bill 38.

Sincerely,

William Donald Schaefer

Governor

Senate Bill No. 38

AN ACT concerning

Practice of Law - Corporate Officers

FOR the purpose of increasing the maximum amount of a claim in a
civil suit in the District Court in which a corporate
officer may appear on behalf of the corporation; providing
for the effective date of this Act; making certain
provisions of this Act contingent on the passage of another
Act; providing for the application of this Act; and
generally relating to the appearance of a corporate officer
in the District Court.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments

Section 14A
