SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 73B - Pensions

55.

(a) The definitions of "pension," "retirement allowance,"
and "retirement" as set forth in § 1 of this article do not apply
to this subtitle, except as expressly provided in this subtitle.

In this subtitle, the following words or terms have the
meanings indicated.

(B) "APPROVED EMPLOYER" MEANS AN EMPLOYER OF JUDGES, WHO
HAS OBTAINED THE APPROVAL OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE TO HAVE
AN EMPLOYER PICKUP PROGRAM IN ACCORDANCE WITH § 414(H)(2) OF THE
INTERNAL REVENUE CODE.

[(b)] (C) "Contributory plan" means the contributory plan
for payment of pensions to former judges and their spouses,
provided for in this subtitle.

(D) "COUNTY EMPLOYER" MEANS A COUNTY IN WHICH A MASTER IN
CHANCERY OR A MASTER IN JUVENILE CAUSES, WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR
BENEFITS UNDER THIS SUBTITLE, HAS BEEN APPOINTED BY THE CIRCUIT
COURT FOR THAT COUNTY.

[(c)] (E) "Court" means the Court of Appeals, Court of
Special Appeals, circuit court of a county, and the District
Court of Maryland.

[(d)] (F) "Former judge" is a person whose service as a
judge has terminated.

[(e)] (G) "Fund" means the fund maintained by the board of
trustees of the Employees' Retirement System of the State of
Maryland for payment of pensions to former judges and their
spouses.
