(iv) In the custody of any resident for more
than 30 days during any registration year.
22-409.
(a) The Administrator shall adopt such regulations as are
necessary for the safe transportation of hazardous materials.
These regulations shall duplicate or be consistent with current
hazardous materials regulations of the United States Department
of Transportation.
(b) Any [person driving a vehicle carrying any hazardous
materials as cargo] SHIPPER OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS AND ANY MOTOR
CARRIER CARRYING HAZARDOUS MATERIALS on a highway IN THE STATE
shall comply at all times with this section and the regulations
[of the Administrator] adopted under this section.
(c) The vehicle CARRYING HAZARDOUS MATERIALS shall be
marked or placarded at such places and in such manner as are
required by regulations adopted under this section.
(d) The vehicle shall be equipped with fire extinguishers
of a type, size, and number approved by the Administrator,
filled and ready for immediate use, and placed at a convenient
point on the vehicle.

(c) (4) For a truck or combination of vehicles, the width
limit is 102 inches, provided:
(i) It has a registered or operating gross
weight of 33,000 pounds or more; and
(ii) It is being operated on any part of the
interstate system or other State system highways that are
designated by the Secretary in conjunction with the U.S.
Department of Transportation; or
(iii) It is being operated on a highway that is
the shortest practical route between a designated highway and a
truck terminal, [or] A point of origin/destination for cargo, or
FOR A DISTANCE NOT TO EXCEED 1 MILE, facilities for food, fuel,
repairs, or rest.

[(j) A person may operate a semitrailer and a trailer in
combination with a truck tractor on Maryland Route 2 between U.S.
Route 50 and Interstate 695 only:
(1) From 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.; and
