Ch. 714

(b) (1) Commissioners shall be adult residents of the
counties in which they serve, but they need not be lawyers.

(2)   [Each commissioner shall receive as compensation
an amount equal to that received by a classified employee in the
State merit system as follows:

(i) Starting salary..............Grade 13, base

(ii) Maximum salary for up through 5 years
of service.......................................Grade 13, Step 6

(iii) Salary at beginning of 6th year of
service and thereafter...........................Grade 14, Step 6

(iv) Shift supervisors.........Grade 15, Step 6

(v) Supervisors...............Grade 16, Step 6]

THE SALARY OF COMMISSIONERS SHALL BE SET BY THE SECRETARY OF
PERSONNEL.

(3)  Each commissioner shall hold office at the
pleasure of the Chief Judge of the District Court, and has the
powers and duties prescribed by law.

(4)  Except without additional compensation, unless
otherwise fixed by law, a classified employee of the District
Court, who is an adult, may be granted, in the same manner,
commissioner powers and duties in the county where he is
employed.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall

take effect July 1, 1989.

1990, each commissioner shall receive as compensation not less
than an amount equal to that received by a classified employee in
the State Merit System as follows:

(i) Starting salary..........................Grade 12, Base

(ii) Maximum salary for up through 5 years of

(iii) Salary at beginning of 6th year of service and
thereafter.......................................Grade 13, Step 6

(iv) Shift supervisors.....................Grade 14, Step 6

(v) Supervisors...........................Grade 15, Step 6.
