AN ACT concerning

Maryland Used Oil Recycling Act

FOR the purpose of requiring the Department of Natural Resources
to advertise and inform the public of certain laws on the
illegal disposal of used oil; requiring the Department to
pay for and provide certain signs to certain persons who
sell certain oils to the public for certain purposes;
requiring the Department to require certain persons to post
and maintain certain signs under this Act; making stylistic
changes; and generally relating to the public education
program under the Maryland Used Oil Recycling Act.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Preamble

WHEREAS, Under § 8-1401(f) of the Natural Resources Article,
it is illegal for a person to dispose of used oil into sewers,
drainage systems, waters of the State, or on lands or by
incineration or as refuse; and

WHEREAS, However, it is very difficult for a resident of the
State to find a collection center or recycling center that
accepts used oil for disposal or recycling; now, therefore,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

8-1401.

(a) (1) In this section[,] the following words have the
meanings indicated.

[(1)] (2) "Used oil" means a petroleum-based or
synthetic oil as an engine lubricant, engine oil, motor oil, or
lubricating oil for use in an internal combustion engine, or a
lubricant for motor vehicle transmissions, gears, or axles which
through use, storage or handling has become unsuitable for its
