Ch. 613

LAWS OF MARYLAND

BARBER SHALL SUBMIT TO THE BOARD ADEQUATE EVIDENCE OF THE
FOLLOWING:

(1)  THE INTENTION OF A BARBERSHOP IN THE STATE TO
ALLOW THE APPLICANT TO AFFILIATE WITH IT AS AN APPRENTICE BARBER;
AND

(2)   IN THE CASE OF AN APPLICANT WHO DOES NOT SPEAK
ENGLISH, THE INTENTION TO PARTICIPATE IN AN ENGLISH COMPREHENSION
COURSE DURING THE APPRENTICESHIP.

4-403.

The Board shall register [as a student] and issue a
certificate of registration to each applicant who meets the
requirements of this subtitle.

4-404.

(a) (1) While registration as a student is in effect, the
registration authorizes the individual:

[(1)] (I) to enroll and participate as a student in a
barber school that holds a school permit; and

[(2)] (II) to practice barbering at the barber
school.

[(b) (1)] (2) (I) A student shall practice barbering only
at the barber school.

[(2)] (II) A student may not be paid for work
authorized under this section.

(B) (1) WHILE REGISTRATION AS AN APPRENTICE BARBER IS IN
EFFECT, THE REGISTRATION AUTHORIZES THE INDIVIDUAL TO LEARN TO
PRACTICE BARBERING:

(I)  IN A BARBERSHOP THAT HOLDS A BARBERSHOP
PERMIT; AND

(II)  UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A MASTER BARBER.

(2) (I) AN APPRENTICE BARBER SHALL PRACTICE BARBERING
ONLY AT THE BARBERSHOP.

(II) AN APPRENTICE BARBER MAY ONLY BE PAID FOR
WORK AUTHORIZED UNDER THIS SECTION PERFORMED WHILE ASSISTING A
MASTER BARBER IN STARTING OR COMPLETING AN OPERATION.
