Annotated Code of Maryland

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section(s) 4-603 through 4-606, respectively, of
Article - Business Occupations of the Annotated Code of Maryland

(as enacted by Chapter ___ (S.B. 1) of the Acts of the General

Assembly of 1989) be renumbered to be Section(s) 4-604 through
4-607, respectively.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the Laws of
Maryland read as follows:

Article - Business Occupations

4-101.

(a) In this title the following words have the meanings
indicated.

(B) "APPRENTICE BARBER" MEANS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO, UNDER THE
SUPERVISION OF A MASTER BARBER, IS LEARNING TO PRACTICE BARBERING
IN A BARBERSHOP THAT HOLDS A BARBERSHOP PERMIT.

[(b)] (C) "Barber" means an individual who practices
barbering.

[(c)] (D) (1) "Barbershop" means any commercial
establishment, except a beauty salon, in which an individual
practices barbering.

(2) "Barbershop" does not include a clinic in a
barber school that holds a school permit.

[(d)] (E) "Barbershop permit" means a permit issued by the
Board to operate a barbershop.

[(e)] (F) "Board" means the State Board of Barbers.

[(f)] (G) "Journey barber" means a barber who is licensed
by the Board to practice barbering under the supervision of a
master barber.

[(g)] (H) (1) "License" means, unless the context requires
otherwise, a license issued by the Board to teach or practice
barbering.

(2) "License" includes, unless the context requires
otherwise, each of the following licenses:
