WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, Governor
Ch. 3
In item (2) of this section, the reference to the
"American Speech-Language-Hearing Association" is
substituted for the former reference to the "American
Speech and Hearing Association", to reflect the change
in the name of the entity in 1978. However, the
Business Occupations Article Review Committee notes,
for consideration by the General Assembly, that the
former reference to an audiologist holding "a
certificate of clinical competence from the American
Speech and Hearing Association" originally was enacted
in 1969, 3 years before the enactment of a licensing
law for audiologists. The General Assembly may wish
to consider making item (2) of this section applicable
to an audiologist who is authorized to practice
audiology in the State.
Defined term: "Fit hearing aids" § 8-101
SUBTITLE 2. STATE BOARD OF EXAMINERS FOR
HEARING AID DEALERS.
8-201. ESTABLISHED.
THERE IS A STATE BOARD OF EXAMINERS FOR HEARING AID DEALERS
IN THE DEPARTMENT.
REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from the first sentence of
former Art. 56, § 523(a).
The word "State" is added to achieve uniformity among
the names of the boards that this article governs.
The phrase "in the Department" is added for clarity.
Although the Board was not listed as a unit in Art.
41, § 8-102, it seems clear that the former law
contemplated inclusion of the Board in the Department.
See, e.g., former Art. 56, § 528 -- now § 8-210 of
this subtitle. Accordingly, reference to the Board
also has been added in Art. 41, § 8-102.
Defined terms: "Department" § 1-101
"Hearing aid dealer" § 8-101
8-202. MEMBERSHIP.
(A) COMPOSITION; APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS.
(1) THE BOARD CONSISTS OF 6 MEMBERS.
(2) OF THE 6 MEMBERS OF THE BOARD:
(I) 3 SHALL BE LICENSED HEARING AID DEALERS WHO
ARE EXPERIENCED IN THE SALE OF HEARING AIDS;
