SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1989.

(Senate Bill 430)

AN ACT concerning

Workers' Compensation - Employee Benefits and Compensation

FOR the purpose of altering the definition of "public safety
employee" to include certain volunteer fire fighters and
ambulance rescue personnel so that these employees may be
entitled to receive benefits and compensation under the
Workers' Compensation Law.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 101 - Workmen's Compensation

Section 67(16)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1985 Replacement Volume and 1988 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 101 - Workmen's Compensation

67.

Definitions as used in this article:

(16) "Public safety employee", as used in § 36 of
this article, means:

(i) A fire fighter, fire fighting instructor,
[or] VOLUNTEER FIRE FIGHTER, paramedic OR VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE
RESCUE PERSONNEL employed by OR PROVIDING SERVICES TO:

(i) A fire fighter, fire fighting instructor,
or
paramedic employed by, OR UNLESS OTHERWISE EXCLUDED FROM
WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION COVERAGE UNDER THIS ARTICLE, A VOLUNTEER
FIRE FIGHTER OR VOLUNTEER AMBULANCE RESCUE PERSONNEL PROVIDING
VOLUNTEER FIRE OR RESCUE SERVICES TO:
