WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, Governor
Ch. 3
(A) IN GENERAL.
TO QUALIFY FOR A LICENSE, AN APPLICANT SHALL BE AN
INDIVIDUAL WHO MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS SECTION.
(B) EDUCATION.
AN APPLICANT SHALL HAVE BEEN GRADUATED ON COMPLETION OF A
4-YEAR CURRICULUM IN FORESTRY FROM A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY THAT
IS APPROVED BY THE BOARD OR ACCREDITED BY THE SOCIETY OF AMERICAN
FORESTERS.
(C) EXPERIENCE.
THE APPLICANT SHALL HAVE AT LEAST 2 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN
FORESTRY THAT INDICATES TO THE BOARD THAT THE APPLICANT IS
COMPETENT TO PRACTICE FORESTRY.
REVISOR'S NOTE: Subsection (a) of this section is new
language derived without substantive change from the
first sentence of former Art. 56, § 315 and rephrased
in standard language to introduce the basic
requirements for an applicant for a license.
Subsections (b) and (c) of this section are new
language derived without substantive change from
former Art. 56, § 310(2), as it related to the current
educational and experience requirements.
In subsection (b) of this section, the words "college
or university" are substituted for the former words
"school or college", to reflect the practice of the
Board to approve only colleges and universities. The
Society of American Foresters "accredits" only
colleges and universities, although the Society does
"recognize" technical schools that are not colleges
and universities.
The second sentence of former Art. 56, § 315, which
prohibited the licensure of "firms, companies,
partnerships, or corporations", is deleted as
unnecessary in light of the consistent use of the word
"individual" in provisions that relate to licensing.
Former Art. 56, § 310(1), (2), and (3) set forth 3
alternative provisions on education and experience.
Former § 310(1) required graduation from a forestry
curriculum of at least 4 years from an approved or
accredited school and an additional 3 years of
forestry work -- a 7-year total requirement. A
master's degree could be substituted for 1 year of
that experience requirement.
