3. RESCUE COMPANY OR SQUAD;

(II)  A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER;

(III)  A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER; AND

(IV)  A MEMBER OF THE MARYLAND NATIONAL GUARD
WHO WAS A RESIDENT OF THE STATE AT THE TIME OF INJURY AND WAS
INJURED WHILE ON ACTIVE DUTY FOR THE STATE OR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
DEATH.

(b)  There is a program of scholarships that are awarded
under this section.

(c) (1) A child OR SPOUSE who can demonstrate a financial
need to the Administration may apply to the [Board]
ADMINISTRATION for a scholarship under this section.

(2) ANY DISABLED STATE OR LOCAL PUBLIC SAFETY

EMPLOYEE IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY TO THE ADMINISTRATION FOR A
SCHOLARSHIP UNDER THIS SECTION IF THE INDIVIDUAL:

(I) RECEIVES A DISABILITY RETIREMENT ALLOWANCE
FROM THE MARYLAND STATE RETIREMENT OR PENSIONS OR FROM A

RETIREMENT OR PENSION SYSTEM OF A COUNTY OR MUNICIPAL

CORPORATION; AND

(II) CAN DEMONSTRATE A FINANCIAL NEED TO THE
ADMINISTRATION.

(d)  (1) THE ADMINISTRATION SHALL DETERMINE THE AMOUNT OF
EACH SCHOLARSHIP UNDER THIS SECTION BASED ON THE FINANCIAL NEED
OF THE APPLICANT. [A recipient of a scholarship under this
section may not be awarded more than $700 each year if the
recipient is a part-time student.

(2) A recipient of a scholarship under this section
may not be awarded more than $1,000 each year if the recipient is
a full-time student.

(e)  An award granted under this section may be used for;

(1)  Tuition and mandatory fees;

(2)  Room and board; and

(3)  Books and supplies.

(f)  The scholarship shall be paid to the institution on
vouchers approved by the Administration.]

(2) EACH SCHOLARSHIP PAYS THE TUITION AND FEES AT ANY
ELIGIBLE INSTITUTION FOR A MAXIMUM OF 5 YEARS.
