Preamble
WHEREAS, In the last several years, several bobcats have
been hunted and killed in Maryland; and
WHEREAS, In order to protect bobcats from hunting pressures
in Maryland, the bobcat needs to be classified as a "forest game
mammal" "fur-bearing mammal" in order that the Department of
Natural Resources may include the bobcat on its game list, which
would prohibit the hunting of the bobcat until it is feasible to
provide for an open hunting season on the bobcat; and
WHEREAS, The General Assembly intends this Act to protect
bobcats in the same way that black bears were protected by
Chapter 641 of the Laws of the General Assembly of 1985; now,
therefore,
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

10-101.
(a) In this title, the following words have the meanings
indicated.
(e) "Forest game birds and mammals" means forest game birds
(ruffed grouse and turkey) and forest game mammals (black bears,
BOBCATS, deer, fox squirrels, excluding the Delmarva subspecies,
and gray and red squirrels) or any part, egg, offspring, or dead
body of any of them.
10-205.
(a) Having a due regard for the distribution, abundance,
economic value, and breeding habits of wildlife, the Secretary
may adopt rules and regulations to enlarge, extend, restrict, or
prohibit hunting, possessing, selling, purchasing, shipping,
carrying, transporting, or exporting wildlife.
10-405.
(a) Pursuant to § 10-205 of this title, the Department
shall establish by rule or regulation and publish by July 1 each
