WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, Governor
Ch. 3
(E) ISSUANCE OF RENEWAL.
THE BOARD SHALL RENEW THE REGISTRATION OF AND ISSUE A
RENEWAL CERTIFICATE TO EACH INDIVIDUAL WHO MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS
OF THIS SECTION.
REVISOR'S NOTE: Subsection (a)(1) of this section is new
language derived without substantive change from the
third sentence of former Art. 56, § 501(a).
Subsection (a)(2) of this section is new language
added to state expressly that which only was implied
by the reference, in former Art. 56, § 500(c), to an
"annual" renewal fee. The first sentence of former
Art. 56, § 501(b) referred to certificates being
renewed "biennially" and, thus, could be read to apply
to certificates of apprentices since the second
sentence of § 501(b) specifically dealt with
certificates of apprentices. However the amendment of
former Art. 56, § 500(c) by Ch. 28, Acts of 1988, to
increase the fee without striking the word "annual",
negates this reading.
Subsection (b) of this section is standard language
added to conform to similar provisions in other titles
in this article and to the practice of the Board. In
light of this addition, in subsection (c)(3) of this
section, the former phrase "on request" is deleted.
In any event, the requirement for a request "prior to
the 31st day of August of each year for students" was
obsolete. Since student registration is valid for 5
years, students no longer register every year prior to
August 31.
Subsection (c)(1) of this section is standard language
added for clarity.
Subsection (c)(2) of this section is new language that
combines, without substantive change, item (h) and, as
it related to renewal, item (c) of the second sentence
of former Art. 56, § 500 and the reference to payment
of renewal fees in the first sentence of § 501(b).
Subsection (c)(3) of this section is new language
derived without substantive change from the reference,
in the first sentence of former Art. 56, § 501(b), to
"renewal forms to be supplied by the Board".
Subsection (d) of this section is new language derived
without substantive change from the second sentence of
former Art. 56, § 501(b).
