SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

(i) (1) (i) The Sheriff of Cecil County shall receive an
annual salary of $32,000. The Sheriff also is eligible to
participate in the health care plan that is negotiated for county
employees.
(ii) The Sheriff shall appoint not less than 30
full-time deputy sheriffs whose titles and duties shall be
designated by the Sheriff. The compensation of these deputies
shall be set by the County Commissioners.
(iii) If any deputy resigns and subsequently is
rehired, he may either be paid as if he were hired for the first
time or receive credit for previous service.
(2) The County Commissioners shall pay the cost of
all necessary expenses incurred by the Sheriff and his staff.
They shall further provide additional personnel and equipment
needed for the Sheriff to properly execute the duties of his
office. All personnel shall serve at the pleasure of the
Sheriff.
(3) THE SHERIFF OF CECIL COUNTY SHALL HAVE THE
AUTHORITY TO FORMULATE AND ADMINISTER A PLAN THAT INCLUDES THE
METHOD OF SUPERVISION TO USE INMATES THE SHERIFF DEEMS ELIGIBLE
AND SELECTS TO PERFORM, UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF STATE, COUNTY,
OR MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES, TASKS THE SHERIFF ASSIGNS WITHIN THE
COUNTY OR ANY INCORPORATED MUNICIPALITY WITHIN THE COUNTY.
(n) (1) The Sheriff of Harford County shall receive a
salary of $52,000. He shall appoint the number of deputies at
the compensation provided in the county budget.
(2) The Sheriff may appoint as a special deputy
sheriff:
