WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, Governor                        Ch. 3

"School permit" § 5-101

(D)  BEAUTY SALON PERMIT.

(1)  "BEAUTY SALON PERMIT" MEANS A PERMIT ISSUED BY
THE BOARD TO OPERATE A BEAUTY SALON.

(2)  "BEAUTY SALON PERMIT" INCLUDES AN OWNER-MANAGER
PERMIT.

REVISOR'S NOTE: Paragraph (1) of this subsection is new
language added to avoid repetition of phrases such as
"permit to operate a beauty salon".

Paragraph (2) of this subsection is new language added
to clarify that an owner-manager permit is a beauty
salon permit.

Defined terms: "Beauty salon" § 5-101
"Board" § 5-101

(E)  BOARD.

"BOARD" MEANS THE STATE BOARD OF COSMETOLOGISTS.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection formerly appeared as Art.
56, § 479(j).

The only changes are in style.

Defined term: "Cosmetologist" § 5-101

(F)  COSMETOLOGIST.

"COSMETOLOGIST" MEANS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO PRACTICES
COSMETOLOGY.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language derived
without substantive change from former Art. 56, §
479(c) and (g).

The word "cosmetologist" is substituted, as the
defined term, for the former words "beauty culturist",
"hairdresser", and "operator", for uniformity.
Although former Art. 56, § 479(c) limited the words
"beauty culturist" and "hairdresser" to individuals
who practice cosmetology "for compensation", and
former § 479(g) did not limit the word "operator"
similarly, the former words were used interchangeably
in former Art. 56, §§ 479 through 507. In any event,
the definition of "practice cosmetology" limits the
scope of this title to individuals engaged in
commercial activities.
