Ch. 54

LAWS OF MARYLAND

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to
Article III, § 35 of the Constitution of Maryland, this Act may
not be construed to extend or apply to the salaries or
compensation of the County Commissioners, the State's Attorney,
the Sheriff, and judges of the Orphans' Court in office on the
effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act
concerning the salaries or compensation of the County
Commissioners, the State's Attorney, the Sheriff, and judges of
the Orphans' Court shall take effect at the beginning of the next
following term of office.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall
take effect July 1, 1989.

(House Bill 219)

AN ACT concerning

Military Department - Adjutant General and
Assistant Adjutants General

FOR the purpose of setting forth certain criteria that must be
fulfilled before advancement to certain ranks in the
Military Department is authorized.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 65 - Militia

Section 9

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1988 Replacement Volume and 1988 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 65 - Militia

9.

(a) The Adjutant General shall be appointed by the Governor
by and with the advice and consent of the Senate. He shall have
a commissioned grade not above that of lieutenant general, and
his salary shall be as stated in the annual budget. He may be
