SUBTITLE 1. DEFINITIONS; GENERAL PROVISIONS.
4-101. DEFINITIONS.

(A)  IN GENERAL.

IN THIS TITLE THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE MEANINGS
INDICATED.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language used as the
standard introductory language to a definition
section.

(B)  BARBER.

"BARBER" MEANS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO PRACTICES BARBERING.

REVISOR'S NOTE: This subsection is new language added to
provide an express definition of "barber".

Defined term: "Practice barbering" § 4-101

(C)  BARBERSHOP.

(1)  "BARBERSHOP" MEANS ANY COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENT,
EXCEPT A BEAUTY SALON, IN WHICH AN INDIVIDUAL PRACTICES
BARBERING.

(2)  "BARBERSHOP" DOES NOT INCLUDE A CLINIC IN A
BARBER SCHOOL THAT HOLDS A SCHOOL PERMIT.

REVISOR'S NOTE: Paragraph (1) of this subsection is new
language added to provide an express definition of
"barbershop".

Paragraph (2) of this subsection is new language added
to clarify that there is a distinction between a
barbershop and a clinic in a barber school.

In paragraph (1) of this subsection, the exception for
a beauty salon reflects that an individual may
practice barbering in a beauty salon or a barbershop.

"Practice barbering" § 4-101
"School permit" § 4-101

(D)  BARBERSHOP PERMIT.

"BARBERSHOP PERMIT" MEANS A PERMIT ISSUED BY THE BOARD TO
OPERATE A BARBERSHOP.
